The European History period between 450 and 1400 A.D. is usually termed to be the Middle Ages. Majority of the Romanesque monasteries and churches were established during the period between 1000 and 1150 and, afterwards, the Gothic cathedrals were established between 1150 and 1400. Because cathedrals were holding an upper edge on the medieval landscape and mind, majority of the formal music was applied in such churches. Although women were not permitted to sing (at least not as part of the church service) but men received education in musical at cathedral schools. Majority of medieval music was vocal, but few common instruments were also in usage. Later in 1100, instruments became more and more common in church.
