Are profits and the general welfare basically incompatible?  Why or why not?

No, profit and general welfare are not incomputable in fact these go hand in hand. This can be understood by the concept of corporate social responsibility. When any organization performs some activities in order to help the local community or other lesser privileged members f the community, it helps in creating a good image of the organization. When this message is communicated to the customers, they feel good that the money spent by them is being utilized for the welfare of the community in a way. This provides them the boost to buy more quantity of the product of similar organization. With the increasing sales resulting from the social welfare activities of the organization, the company will begin to earn greater profits. Thus the welfare activities conducted by the organization and profit both are supportive of each other.
