Given that race is a social construct, rather than a reality, is it useful to continue use race as a way to view US Health disparities? why or why not?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Yes, in my opinion the race is an approach to view US Health disparities. Race as a social construction is a common theory as most of the experts in their sampling have an opinion that biological race is non-existent, thus is a social construct created by societies. The race is created to serve the purposes of the majority. According to the epidemiological data the racial groups are affected unequally by diseases, in terms or mortality and morbidity. These differences in health between racial groups lead to racial health disparities. Health disparities is the preventable differences in the burden of injury, disease, violence, or opportunities to attain the optimal health which are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations

1. Suppose that population aging in a given country is due entirely to an increase in life expectancy at age 65, rather than any other cause, and suppose further that Zweifel et al. (1999) are right and the rise in the set of people who are close to death causes higher health care expenditures. Given these assumptions, would you expect per capita health care expenditures to rise or fall in the near future? What about total health expenditures? 2. Suppose...

Some of the methods in this section are approximations rather than exact probability results. We have given rules of thumb for safe use of these approximations. (a) You are interested in attitudes toward drinking among the 75 members of a fraternity. You choose 30 members at random to interview. One question is "Have you had five or more drinks at one time during the last week?" Suppose that in fact 30% of the 75 members would say "Yes." Explain why...

Here's the question: Is the ratio of government debt to GDP a useful indicator of a government’s indebtedness? When could it be misleading? I'm confused with the solution, especially the highlighted sentence: Debt is a stock and a government liability; GDP is a flow and a potential source of tax revenue. The economic variable that connects real stocks and real flows is the real interest rate. If the real interest rate is low then it is possible to service a much...
