Why on average are women paid less than men?

Why on average are women paid less than men?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The gender pay gap is the consequence of numerous variables, including job segregation, bias against working mothers, and discrimination against immediate pay. Things like racial bias, disability, access to education, and age also come into play. Consequently, there are very distinct pay gaps in separate groups of females.

While greater education increases women's overall earnings, education does not close the gender pay gap. Women earn less than men at all educational levels and the gender pay gap widens for persons with advanced degrees compared to people with high school education. The earnings difference between women and men varies with age, with younger women more closely approaching pay equity than older women

The gender pay gap varies substantially from state to state, due to such factors as:

  • The primary industries in the state and the opportunities they create;
  • Demographics such as race/ethnicity, age, and education level;
  • Regional differences in attitudes and beliefs about work and gender; and
  • Differences in the scope and strength of state pay discrimination laws and policies.
