In a reaction to modernization theory, numerous theorists have constructed dependency theory that viewed the underdevelopment of developing Nations to be self afflicted. They stated the cause of the prevalence of poverty in developing nations to be a result of external factors instead of internal or ‘self-inflicted’ causes. The economist argued that developing countries are simply further behind developed countries in terms of development, and the real cause is the exploitation by richer countries, or more clearly, that the European and other Western countries development depend upon the non-Western countries underdevelopment. The developing nations developing require protectionism and a heavy role on the part of governments. The process of ‘anti-globalization’ or ‘delinking,’ can be solution to the prevailing poverty and unequal distribution of wealth in our world today
