Every summer, a large number of the world’s sports economists meet for a conference in a major city in the western United States. If the schedule permits, the economists always try to go to a local sporting event, such as a MLB, MLS, or National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) game while they are there. Should the economists’ spending at these events count as economic impact for the city? Why or why not?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Yes, the economists spending time at those events can be counted as economic impact for the city as they can get to analyse the sport and the interest among the people to come and watch that particular sport. They ca also learn a lot about how the sport affects the people of the city on the whole. WIth that data, it can be helpful for them to devise a plan where one can use this sport for developing the overall economy of the city as well as the country on the whole.
