Events - atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by US in a show of strength to USSR. Also, advent of communism from 1917 through 1950 and its insulation from economic crisis in capitalist world. Post world war, the division of Germany, and Korean peninsula played an improtant role.

Ideological conflict was that of capitalism vs communism, and democracy vs communist dictatorship.

Truman doctrine stated extending financial help to ideologically sympathetic states like Greece & Turkey which also had borders with former USSR. This created a threat perception in Russian minds which responded by creating similar environment near Americas borders in Cuba, Venezuela.
