Three Catalysts for innovation would be

Set aside time for generating ideas. There would be no restrictions, no targets and the ideas can be related to anything. An organization can set aside 40% of the time for its employees to brainstorm on any ideas not related to their work. This may be in the form of problem solving sessions, incubation sessions. The best ideas come when there are no targets or timelines attached.

Allow cross functional training on an open forum. Open an intranet forum, where all employees can post queries and questions and any employee can answer or help solving these. There would also be a reward and recognition program for the employees who come out with innovative solutions.

Dynamic leadership and flexible work structure. The best ideas are nurtured under proper guidance. A dynamic and visionary leadership who can mentor employees is a great plus for any organization. There must be an open and two way communication and feedback channel between peers. Flexible work structure would allow employees to learn more and enhance their skills. It would also help the employees to find out their strengths and skills and align them with matching responsibilities. This would ensure employees love what they do and provide innovation.

Considering item 1, it can be stated that setting targets and deadlines are important for the organization as it keeps the employees motivated even when they do good in a day. They will know another day they will have to perform even better. Thus, it prevents over confidence and lethargy. They remain motivated if achievable targets are set by the organization.
