  1. Why are the inflation rate and unemployment rate moving in the directions that they are?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In 2018, the Canadian unemployment rate and the inflation rate both saw a downward trend. The increase in employment was attributed to an increase in the private sector employees, rise in jobs for older workers as well as core aged population (both men and women). Legalization of cannabis is also seen to be one of the major drivers for gainful employment activities for Canadian labour force. The benign inflation environment could have been created due to the low cost of energy as gasoline prices declined amid an oversupply in the US. The low and stable inflation rate is also the product of the commitment of the Central Bank of Canada to keep inflation to about 2 per cent, within an acceptable band of 1 to 3 per cent.
