In YOUR OPINION, SHOULD THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA HAVE TAKEN OVER PG&E? Why or why not?

Answer #1

Yes State of California should have taken over PG& E. The following are the reasons in favour of such a decision:

  • The private system failed to hold giant investor-owned utilities and us accountable for massive wildfires and sprawling blackouts. So, this calls the need of an alternative option.
  • The statewide power company would effectively protect Californian families and business organisations.
  • The PG&E has been into Bankruptcy and untill and unless it has a safer and reliable plan, the only option left is State takeover.
  • Public power is generally cheaper, safer, cleaner and more reliable. However certain exceptions are there.
  • The state has the legal power, and leverage, to take over PG&E due to PG&E bankruptcy and criminal conviction which resulted from an incident in 2010 involving gas line explosion that killed eight in San Bruno.
