In your informed opinion what was the Progressive Movement and how successful was it in effecting social, economic, and political change?
Progressive movement was reaction to ill consequences of industrial revolution. Impacts of industrial revolution were not equal across classes and regions. Progressive movement surfaced in concluding phase of 19th century. Here, leading intellectuals and social reformers sought to find solutions to social, economic and political problems.
It stressed on freedom and it was redefined as fulfillments of human capabilities through government actions. Many reforms argued for enhancing government role. It was also responsible for consolidating concept of liberalism.
Further, in political sphere, suffrage was announced for women. Now women also became main participants in politics.
Rail, roads and drugs legislations were made to take benefits of these to common citizens.
