Alaska airlines is a leading air carrier in US and contract negotiations are governed by Railway Labour Act. This Act establishes clear guidelines and contracts never expire.

The reason behind choosing that law is because it is applicable to all of railroad and airline industry. It seeks to substitute bargaining, arbitration and labor strikes. This law was the product of several negotiations between companies and unions. RLA also specifies procedures and methods for resolving disputes. It bars all strikes under minor disputes and allows major strikes which cannot be avoidable. It tries to represent justly the management and the employees.
