Microeconomics: In your opinion are sports leagues monopolies? Do sports stadiums create total surplus for local economies? Do they create deadweight loss? Do you think local governments should help pay for stadiums?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Sports leagues are natural monopolies. Sports stadiums create a total surplus for local economies due to natural monopoly and they too create deadweight loss as they practice third-degree price discrimination.I don"t think local governments should pay for stadiums because these are not in the public interest, its only the entertainment of sports and private entities working for earning profits.
