Describe and evaluate the concepts of “globalism” vs. “nationalism”.
Globalism is a concept which is based on increasing global interdependence and exchange of goods and services, finances, ideas, laborers, inhabitants, cultural factors, etc. Therefore, globalism results in a more connected world and weaker national boundaries. Globalism promoted free trade, a flow of international finances and a free flow of immigrants and workers.
Nationalism is based on the concept of national exceptionalism and it focuses on the promotion of national economy, culture, ideas, etc. through a protectionist mindset. Nationalism is in favor of import-substitution and no-reliance in imports. Nationalism policies are against free trade or immigration.
