Suppose that women’s hourly earnings are distributed non-normally with mean $20 and standard deviation $10. What is the sampling distribution of the mean in SRS for n=100?

Answer #1

The central limit theorem states that the sampling distribution of the sample mean approximates the normal distribution, regardless of the distribution of the population from which the samples are drawn if the sample size is sufficiently large even if the sample is drawn from a population that is not normally distributed.

Thus the sampling distribution of the mean

where = population distribution & = sampling distribution

Thus sampling distribution of the mean = $ 20

Standard error of the mean
