The Trans Pacific Partnership (TTP) has met with significant political resistance in the United States (see the opening case), while the TTIP has not (at least as yet). Why do you think this is the case?
The main reasons behind the political resistance to TPP is that majority of the countries in the TPP are developing economies, trade agreements are more beneficial from there point of view. For eg:- Vietnam is known for its leather industries, with the earlier TPP trade agreements, free trade is allowed between the Vietnam and United States, now due to high availability of labour, the cost of footwear's manufactured in vietnam are very cheap as compared to US made footwear's. Thus this trade was destroying the local footwear industries of the US, as more low cost imported footwear's are conquering the US markets.
Now, in case of TTIP majority of the countries are developed economies, US has positive balance of payments with many countries, thus any trade agreement will be more in favour of the US.
