When you actually compare the GDP of United States to that of the GDP of China, one of the problems that you can actually face is regarding the population where is the population of China is more than 4 times that of United States & therefore straightaway comparing the cheating place might not give you I will be picture of the quality of life in China. Another problem that you can actually face easy cutting the purchasing power when the purchasing power differences can exist and straight away comparing the nominal GDP without taking the account of living standards might not give accurate conclusions. Another thing is the debt levels of the respective countries should also be considered in order to understand about the risk levels of the country and this can also be a counter to GDP comparision of both countries.
