The government offers generous subsidies to support the farmers and new research indicates gluten’s negative impact on the digestive system.

Sketch what happens to the demand and/or supply curves and, as result, what happens to the equilibrium price. Provide an explanation.

Answer #1

the subsidies can increase the supply as a result of which supply curve will shift to the right as shown in the figure and this decrease the equilibrium price and increases the equilibrium quantity.

there is a negative impact of gluten in the digestive system what happens is that the demand increases as a result of this agreement or shipped to the left in this can decrease the equilibrium price and decrease the equilibrium quantity.

ultimately in both the cases the prices decreased and therefore the equilibrium price is decreased but the equilibrium quantity can either increase or decrease depending on the effect of subsidy is more or the negative effect of gluten is more.

Governments can use subsidies to increase demand. For instance, the government can pay farmers to use organic fertilizers rather than traditional fertilizers. That subsidy increases the demand for organic fertilizer. Consider two industries, one in which supply is nearly vertical and the other in which supply is nearly horizontal. Assume that firms in both industries would prefer a higher market equilibrium price because a higher market equilibrium price would mean higher profits. Which industry would probably spend more resources lobbying...

The government offers subsidies to homeowners for the purchase and installation of solar energy generating equipment. Given that silicon (derived from silicate minerals) is the main input in the production of solar panels, how will the subsidy affect the market for silicon? Demand will rise, leading to an increase in the equilibrium price and quantity of silicon. Supply will rise, leading to an increase in the equilibrium quantity and decrease in price. Demand will fall, leading to a decrease in...

The government has implemented a new policy to support the price of wheat at $5.68/bu. If the wheat market equilibrium price is $3.52/bu, the equilibrium quantity of wheat is 1,117.00 million bu, the elasticity of supply is 0.3, and the elasticity of demand is -0.75, then what is the new quantity supplied and the new quantity demanded at the support price? How much wheat would the government need to buy to keep the price supported at $5.68/bu?
