How would you begin to address the problem of child labor in Pakistan when so many poor families count on the income of their children to survive?

Answer #1

I would first address the acute poverty level in the country. When households have a very low income, they think it is better to let their young children work and earn rather than going to school. Economic growth needs to reach to the poorest section of the society so that the basic needs of food and shelter are fulfilled. When we can reach a minimum income level for each household, then children will be sent to schools rather than to small factories and shops to work.

What would you do? So....you're a teacher in a preschool classroom. We'll say that the children are three and four years old. All of them are typically developing and toilet-trained (well, you know, the occasional accident). It's expected that the children feed themselves, put on their own jackets, and help with classroom clean-up such as picking up toys. One child, though, is from a family whose culture values interdependence rather than independence. Her mother feeds, dresses, and cleans up after...

Read and respond to the case study below. Sophia began her small family child care business (licensed for up to 8 children) in 2004. Her business is located in a lower to middle-class, diverse neighborhood in San Francisco. Soon after Sophia opened her program she reached full capacity and after several months she began a waiting list. By 2007, she was averaging three calls per month for child care spaces that she didn't have available. Sophia began to think about...
