How has the view of peoples economic motivation changed over the last hundred years?

The people view of economic motivation has changed over the last 100 years. Initially Abraham Maslow came up with a theory stating about how the motivational factors come into play and these can be applicable to the economic theories as well. People initially get economically motivated for their basic needs such as food shelter and clothed and then proceed towards the esteem needs and self actualization needs where this would be the order where after fulfilling the initial needs, they will be moving towards the order up the hierarchy all in all.
