Street lights near my house is an example of public good. It provides light in the night, and as a result streets feel more safe at night as compared to streets without any lighting. Street lights are provided at free of cost and no one needs to pay or be compelled to pay to enjoy the benefits of lighting. At night everyone can benefit and no one can be stopped from enjoying the benefits of the lighting and hence it is non-excludable. One person walking under the street light does not affect the amount of lighting available to another person. One person's consumption does not affect another person's consumption and hence it is non-rival.
