Why should footballers be paid higher wages than college professors and/or medical doctors?

There are many reasons. One reason is that the career of footballers is very short. They should be paid higher for avoiding loss in earnings that they suffer in other years of struggle and retirement

Secondly there is high risk involved. Hardly twenty or thirty persons become national footballers.. Similarly very few can be absorbed in leagues and clubs. Thus they are paid more

One more reason is that these occupations are high value. The leagues, franchises, national teams earn millions in advertising, tickets etc. Naturally marginal product is much higher in value. Thus they should be paid higher
