You are designing a dormitory administration system. The university has several dorms, each has many rooms. A dorm is identified by its dorm ID. Besides, a dorm has a dorm name, street address, city, state, and zipcode. Each room is identified by a combination of dorm ID and room number. Besides, a room has number of beds, and monthly rent. The diagram should specify entities, identifiers, attributes, relationship types (identifying or non-identifying), and cardinalities (MAX and min on each side). All many-to-many relationships, if any, should be converted into associative entities (the answer should not have many to many relationship). Relationship labels are not needed. Grading is based on the completeness of the diagram.

Use Microsoft Visio or Draw.io to draw the diagram.

Use IE (crow’s foot) notation.

Answer #1

Solution)

Based on the question the entities are Room and Dorm.
The relationship between entities is Dorm has Rooms.
The cardinality in the relationship is 1:n, that is 1 Dorm has n Rooms and n Rooms belongs to 1 Dorm.
Minimum participation of entity Dorm is 1, and Maximum participation of entity Dorm is also 1
Minimum participation of entity Room is 1, and Maximum participation of entity Dorm is also n
Since there is no any m:n cardinality present in the relation therefore there is not necessary to add associative entity.
The ER diagram is as follows:
