What drew African Americans to the cities in the
north during the Great Migration?
The main factors that leads African Americans to cities of north were the Segregation(seperating people on the basis of color), Lynching(extrajudicial killing of people by a group pf people), racist ideology and lack of economic and social opportunities. Around 3500 African Americans were lynched during this time period.
Other reasons:
Due to world war I, Shortage of labours affected the northern industries resulting job opportunities in mills, railroads, meatpacking plants and automobile industries. These job opportunities pulled the African Americans to north with the effort of job agents sent by Northern businessmen. Also many companies offers incentives like free transportation and low cost housting which relocated the African Americans to northern cities.
