The user interface that the operating system presents to the user is like a hallway with doors leading to rooms housing applications programs. To go from one room to another you have to go back to the hallway. Continue with this analogy: What would files be? What would be analogous to a time slice?

so going to a program we must go to file where the program is stored.

so we can say that file in analogy, is way to reach to the rooms housing applications programs.

time slice in computer system is limit till that an application program is run and then switch to another program.

so we can say that time slice in analogy, is time limit for which someone can stay in a room.
