How hard would it be to make FTP use one channel (both command and data over the same socket) instead of two?

Ans. It is difficult to make FTP use one channel instead of two as, we know data communication is not possible without a secure connection, as it is not allowed. So, a secure connection can be gained if two ports means two socket is added then, only.

So, as the main purpose of FTP is to provide secure communication and pass messages from client to server. And without this two ports or two sockets connection communication cannot be done, so it will be of no use.
