A card is drawn from a well shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find the probability of:

(i) ‘2’ of spades

(ii) a jack

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(i)

There are total 13 spades in a deck of 52 cards and out of these 32, only 1 card is a '2' of spades.

Total number of outcomes = 52

Total number of favourable outcomes = 1

P('2' of spades) = 1/52

(ii)

There are 4 jacks in a deck of 52 cards each one of spade, heart, diamond and club.

Total number of outcomes = 52

Total number of favourable outcomes = 4

P(a jack) = 4/52 = 1/13
