I am about to start my Dissertation for my Msc in Cyber Security course. However, I am still unsure of the topic I will pursue. Could you please give me a few examples of topics (Preferably IoT & Cybersecurity) and provide 3 characteristics of the research topic that makes it suitable for a master’s level research project. This would be really helpful and would enable me to start planning my dissertation.

Thank You

So I will providing the example of IoT As According to me IoT is our future and we need to know more about this and about it's characteristics as it will be helping you in providing the thesis on this I will explaining on the term IoT

Attempts to define what the Internet of Things is and means exist since the term was first coined and even before that since the notion of a connected reality that includes the physical world (things) obviously isn’t new at all. There is no universal definition of IoT yet and no one can see everything that the Internet of Things will effectively mean on the longer term. It is often argued that, even if IoT is said to already be so omnipresent, we’re only at the very beginning and that game-changing IoT players don’t even exist

Internet of Thing (IoT)

The internet of things is a rapidly growing technology which aims connect all devices to the existing Internet infrastructure.

At present only Mobiles, Computers, Tablets and Smart TV is connected with internet. By using IoT all the devices (Eg:- coffee maker, A.C, Washing Machine,Ceiling Fan, lights almost any thing you think of) having sensors can be connected with internet.

INTERNET (The world wide internet, used here in the form of a connection - could be through a WiFi or Mobile Data) + THINGS (Any electronic device that has the capability to sense) =

INTERNET OF THINGS (Device(s) that have sensors, that are programmed to act in a certain way, are connected together to achieve a certain result.)

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects accessed through the Internet that can identify themselves to other devices and use embedded technology to interact with internal states or external conditions. The IoT is an environment where an object that can represent itself becomes greater by connecting to surrounding objects and the extensive data flowing around it.

The Open Web Application Security Project’s (OWASP) Internet of Things Top 10 Project aims to educate users on the main facets of IoT security and help vendors make common appliances and gadgets network- and Internet-accessible. The project walks through the top 10 security problems that are seen with IoT devices and discusses how to prevent them. Its list is as follows:

  1. Insecure Web interface
  2. Insufficient authentication or authorization
  3. Insecure network services
  4. Lack of transport encryption
  5. Privacy concerns
  6. Insecure cloud interface
  7. Insecure mobile interface
  8. Insufficient security configuration
  9. Insecure software or firmware
  10. Poor physical security

Characteristic Choosing Research In master level

When you are selecting a research problem, the following characteristics of a good research question should be kept in mind.

1. F - Feasible and Fundable

2. I - Interesting and Impactful

3. N - Novel

4. E - Ethical

5. R - Relevant and Replicable

6. M - Manageable

7. A - Appropriate

8. P - Publishable

9. S - can be done in a Systematic and Scientific way

I think a key problem in choosing a research topic is staying true to yourself. As your advisors and colleagues bat you around among a series of potential topics, it is hard, in my experience, to remember what excited you about this general area of inquiry to begin with. A second related problem is, paradoxically enough, the obsession with finding a research topic. When I was in graduate school, my advisor, told me to stop trying to find a topic and instead read the broad literature

If You have Any Query Regarding this please ask in comment section I will be there to solve all your query in comment section immediately hope you will like it
