PHST stands for Packaging, Handling, Storage and Transportation. They have an important role in database management. Without it many users may not find out about the database management systems. It is the main means in which a product or service is distributed and presented.

Databases can package many things such as websites, other databases, systems and crucial data components, network configurations and protocols. Without DBMS users cannot databases without extensive technical backgrounds. Without the management of these databases such as updating,creating and deleting ,these databases would be nearly useless or would soon become outdated and non functioning. The PHST of these systems is key to get the management systems well as packaged databases to clients.
