Answer #1

Clustering and classification can be used to facilitate the selection of suppliers in an effective way.

In general there are two approaches where in the first one a threshold value is used and in second one it is ignored. The intensity of preference is also considered.

The components supplied or in other cases outsourced, are kept into different categories as per the criteria set and requirements of the company. The goal here is to classify the components as per the impact of the business of the company.

The classification of options into different categories is done by using outranking relations and allocating them to different categories. The components required from the supplier and optional components are placed into categories. The most critical component is then selected, based on which a supplier can also be chosen.
