why are open access journals (in science or other disciplines) a good idea or not?
I think open access journals are useful. Because it helps researchers to find good information and practical examples for their research work. Open access journals are the most appropriate medium in availing research data, and in fact, in my opinion it is the best medium for upcoming researchers to showcase their research. open access journals give free access to scientific papers regardless of affiliation with a subscribing library and lower costs for research in academia and industry. It allows researchers to carry out collaborative research on a global scale.
The main argument against open access journals is the possible damage to the peer review system which diminishes the overall quality of scientific journal publishing.
