what are the major security, privacy, and ethical implication in data mining? How significant these implication are for the business sector?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Implications in datamining are as follows.

  • Security: If the base of data analysis or the data itself is incorrect, then the problem being solved cannot reach the optimal solution. If data is valuable and sensitive, it needs additional security.
  • Privacy: Collecting data with data increasing at an exponential increasing rate hampers the privacy of an individual.
  • Ethical: If data is collected without consent for a prolonged time, this is a subject of harassment for the data source (especially, if source is humans).

All three implications put the credability of the company at risk. Data security is most important from company's perspective. Privacy and ethics are important for the consumer / end user.
