(prima/prima) What are the functions of sockets in networked applications? Explain your answer with a case scenario where you are receiving 10 packets from a node. How will the socket perform its role?
PLEASE write your answer in your own words! thanks
Sockets are used for server and client interactions. It is an endpoint of two way communication link .
A socket is bound to a port number so that the TCP layer can identify the application that data is destined to be sent to. An endpoint is a combination of an IP address and a port number. Every TCP connection can be uniquely identified by its two endpoints. That way you can have multiple connections between your host and the server.
A packet is a part of the larger data . When there are 10 packets at a node the packets will be send one by one to the client . The socket will first establish a connection between the client and server . once the connection is established the packets are send to the required port number.
