The main types of mounting methods for accelerometer are :-
Stud Mounting : An average industrial accelerometer have a frequency range high as 15KHz or 900000 CPM(cycles per minute). Stud mount produces the maximum response of the accelerometer. The mounting parts used are stud bolts. Stud mounting is rarely used outside of regular condition monitoring applications, where a stud can be permannently installed and accuracy at high frequencies is required.
Magnet Mounting: The frequncy range of magnet mount accelerometer varies according to the type. For curved surface magnets the frequency range is 2000Hz (120000 CPM)where as for flat magnet with target has a frequency range of 10000Hz (600000 CPM).The mounting parts used are B3 magnet clamps are used. Stud models are also there. Used for machine monitoring applications and are used for generally high pull force and as such can damage surfaces if not used appropriately.
Adhesive Mounting : For adhesive mount accelerometer, the frequency range varies between 10000Hz to 15000Hz(600000 CPM - 900000 CPM).The mounting parts used are Adhesive wax or bee wax. For those applications where holes cannot be drilled into the structure or the design of the accelerometer does not allow for screw/stud mounting, adhesive solutions are the most practical.
Probe Mounting : For probe mount accelerometer, the frequency range is between 800Hz - 1500Hz.The mounting parts used are Probe tip. Used on difficult to reach areas and aluminum motor frames
