ANSWER :

Routing Information Protocol (RIP) version 2 message format : RIP-2 is the most recent version of RIP used in IPv4. The RIPv2 message format is made up similar to RIPv1 but with the expectation of a couple of fields. The most important of these extensions is the addition of a Subnet Mask field to the routing update entries, enabling the use of variable-length subnet masks and qualifying RIPv2 as a classless routing protocol.

  • Route Tag field is an attribute assigned to a route which must be preserved with a route. The Route Tag (RT) provides a field for tagging external routes or routes that have been redistributed into the RIPv2 process.
  • Subnet Mask is 32-bit mask that identifies the network and subnet portion of the IPv4 address. The Subnet Mask field contains the subnet mask which is applied to the IP address to yield the non-host portion of the address.
  • Next Hop identifies a better next-hop address, if one exists, than the address of the advertising router.the immediate next hop IP address to which packets to the destination specified by this route entry should be forwarded
  • Multicasting: In order to reduce unnecessary load on those hosts which are not listening to RIP-2 messages, an IP multicast address will be used for periodic broadcasts.these datagrams are sent out using the special reserved multicast address 224.0.0.9.
