Explain the primary purpose of DHCP? How to configure DHCP on a router?
DHCP is the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It helps to eliminate the need of the admin of a network to manually assign IP addresses to a new device that joins a particular network. It is an IP address management protocol. DHCP assigns an IP address from a pool of IP addresses available, whenever a client makes a request to the network to be assigned an IP address.
To configure DHCP on a router, the following steps can be followed:
`1. In a web browser, go to the IP address of your router (usually 192.168.1.1) by typing it in the address bar and pressing enter.
2. It will ask you to enter username and password. Fill in the required fields here.
3. You can find a tab for DHCP on the new page after login. Click on this tab.
4. DHCP settings can now be enabled or disabled.
5. Starting IP address and the Ending IP adresses can also be entered. You can then save the settings.
