We can utilize potentially high bandwidth in one of the two ways: broadband and baseband modes. Describe broadband mode, its advantages, and its disadvantages

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In Broadband mode, information is sent in the form of an analog signal . Each transmission is assigned to a portion of the bandwidth , hence multiple transmissions are possible at the same time.

Advantages:

  • Signal travelling distance is long
  • Frequency division multiplexing is possible
  • The signals are sent on multiple frequencies and allow all the multiple signals are sent simultaneously in broadband transmission.

Disadvantages:

  • Support only Analog signals are used
  • Transmission of data is unidirectional

This question concerns block cipher modes. We will use a simple affine cipher, which can be expressed in C as follows. char cipher(unsigned char block, char key) { return (key+11*block)%256; } Note that the block size is 8 bits, which is one byte (and one ASCII character). We will work with the fixed key 0x08. We now encrypt various plaintexts using modes for this cipher. In every case in which the mode requires an IV, the IV will be 0xAA....

Suppose you are to design a new porch light that has 3 modes of operation: OFF, ON continuously, and in the third mode it turns on and off based on its own motion detector. We studied three different modes of operations: ECB, CBC, OFB. One mode may be better than another according to a particular criterion. For the following, you don’t have to give any explanations, just state which of the two modes is better according to that criterion: (a) Preventing BG from building a code book of matching P, C pairs. Which is better: OFB or ECB? (b) Being able to encrypt blocks in parallel: Which is better: CBC or ECB? (c) Preventing...

In the simplified model with proportional taxation there can be two equilibria, one with a high tax rate and one with a low tax rate. Now, suppose that government spending increases. Determine the effects of an increase in G on consumption, leisure, labor supply, real output, and the tax rate in a high-tax-rate equilibrium and in a low-tax-rate equilibrium. How do your results differ? Explain why.

The t statistic compares two groups on one independent variable that has two levels. We can use the t statistic to compare a sample that has a level of an independent variable, or we can use two samples from the same populations and give them two different levels of an independent variable.
