Is Machine learning purely science or technology. What sciences have any impact on the development of Machine Learning? How?

Since Machine Learning is very much application-oriented, it is more justified to call it a technology rather than terming it as a branch of pure science. However, it uses the concepts of several disciplines of pure science.

Machine Learning uses concepts from computational and mathematical sciences like statistics, algorithms, optimization, graph theory, information theory and network theory.

Much of machine learning involves predicting unforeseen data, which hugely uses statistical concepts like regression. Also, innumerable different algorithms are used to obtain the required results. Mathematical concepts of calculus, analysis, and linear algebra are also used.
