The set of measures are:

1. Double-check the information you are releasing. This encompasses both verbal and written communication on public websites such as twitter and facebook.
2. Determine the assets which will be more valuable to a criminal. For example, your email account will provide a hacker with access to everything including bank accounts.
3. Keep all the software up to date as they are released with bug patches. These bugs are exploited by hackers to gain unauthorized access.

The countermeasures are:

1. Strong password policies i.e. use a strong password which has nothing to do with your personal life and has a digit, an uppercase letter and a symbol.
2. Do not give access to critical accounts to anyone
3. Monitoring the activities happening on your account and reviewing them if something seems fishy!
