There are many techniques available for indentifying or discovering the user's needs or the new system. As you mentioned you need to know about the popular three techniques.

So, Followings are the popular and more effective techniques which helps to indentifying or discovering the user's requirements for the new system:-

1. User surveys or Questionnaires: It includes hosting of a set of specifically written questions for a sample of users. Hosting of these question is known as Survey. So, the Surveys will help to identify as well as discover the needs of users, and current work practices and attitudes to new system ideas. Generally, Surveys are composed in such a way that a mixture of 'closed' questions with fixed responses and 'open' questions, where the respondents are free to answer as they want. This method is very good for gathering quantitative and some qualitative data from a specific large number of users about the problems of existing tasks or the current system.

2. Focus groups and workshops: This technique is like an intersection of both (stakeholders and users) of ideas and issues consideration. This method is effective in order to identify issues that need to be tackled and for requirements elicitation. The core idea is that each participant can act to stimulate ideas in the other people present, and that by a process of group discussion, the collective view being considered which is better than the individual parts.

3.
