2. Open an app that uses the GPS (e.g., Google Maps). Look at the status bar at the top of the device. What icons are there? What are they doing? Watch until the device goes to black and then turn it on again. What changes occurred in the status icons? Now switch to the home screen. What happened to the status icons?

While I open the google maps it recommends us to turn on the location icon on the status bar, So once the location icon is turned on it locates us in the map using the global positioning system.

So once the google map is switched on it automatically turns the GPS location on in the status bar.
