For Networks -> Please show me how to calculate:

1.)   The maximum data rate of a signal using the Nyquist theorem.

2.)   The maximum bit rate of a signal using the Shannon’s theorem.

3.)   How much bandwidth is there in 0.1 microns of spectrum at a wavelength of 1micron?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1)

According to Nyquist theorem, the maximum data rate is equal to 2B log_2^V

2)

According to Shannon's theorem, the maximum data rate = B log_2(1+S/N)

3)

using the equation

delta_f = c * delta_lambda / (lambda*lambda)
where delta_f is the bandwidth range,
c is the light speed,
delta_lamba is the wavelength range,
and lambda is a certain wavelength.
Therefore,
delta_f
= 3*10e8 * 0.1*10e-6 / (10e-6 * 10e-6)
= 3*10e13Hz
= 30THz

Problem 3: Nyquist Theorem (10 pts) With 32 levels of signal and a bandwidth f=1 MHz, what is the maximum data rate by the Nyquist theorem? Please include your calculation steps. Answers without intermediate work will not receive any point. (Hint: Nyquist theorem in Ch02 slides# 56) Your solution: Data rate = 2 * 1mhz * log2(32) = 2* 1 Mhz * 5 =10 bps Can someone check my work if i did this correctly? thank you

Suppose a full-scale voice signal with bandwidth 10 kHz is sampled at the Nyquist rate and quantized by using a b-bit uniform quantizer. The bit stream is then transmitted using binary PAM over an AWGN channel that is capable of passing frequencies in the range of [0, 200kHz]. 1. Suppose that the signal is transmitted at the maximum bit rate and the two-sided spectral density of noise at the receiver is 10-6 W/Hz. What is the required signal power to...

****Please show me 2 cases for the proof, one is using n=1, another one is n=2, otherwise, you answer will be thumbs down****Hint: triangle inequality. Don't copy the online answer because the question is a little bit different use induction prove that for any n real numbers, |x1+...+xn| <= |x1|+...+|xn|. Case1: show me to use n=1 to prove it, because all the online solutions are using n=2 Case2: show me to use n=2 to prove it as well.
