If I hand you a printed dictionary (an actual book) and ask you
to find the word “Kalimba”, what do you do?
Write down precise steps (a procedure) as if someone who doesn’t
know what a dictionary is must follow your instructions.
In a printed dictionary, the words are put in such a way that
they can be accessed alphabetically
For example, if i want to search for a word "pet"
Steps to look for the word put in a dictionary are as
follows:
1] Find the section of the first letter of the word
a) This can be done by looking up the different sections of a
dictionary containing all words starting from first letter of the
word you are searching for; top of the page contains example of
what type of words are present on that page
2] Once you reach the desired section, start looking up for the
next letters in the word sequentially
the words of the dictionary are put in an increasing alphabetical
sequence so the word pet comes after the pat since
since the letter a in pat comes before letter e in pet in the
alphabetical order
for given example; ie; kalimba
1] search for the section in the dictionary from where the words
with k start
2]next letter after k is a; so search for page with words starting
with ka
3]similarly keep searching for subsequent letters till you reach
the word you need
