PNG Buffer Overflow vulnerability

There is a vulnerability in MS Office, windows messenger and some other Microsoft based services which are prone to the remote stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability known as PNG Buffer Overflow vulnerability as the software such as MS Office and Windows messenger fails to employ specific boundary checks on the data. Attackers can thus exploit this security issues by sending the victim a malicious PNG file and then making him open it in some context. On successful exploitation the attacker would be able to successfully corrupt the memory of the victim and execute some malicious arbitrary code.
