How many IP addresses could be assigned in each subnet of 220.8.7.0, assuming that a mask of 255.255.255.240 is used? if the same (static) mask is used for all subnets, how many subnets are there?

Answer #1

The IP address given is: 220.8.7.0 and this is belongs to Class C.

In Class C addressing, 24 bits will be used as network bits and 8 bits will be used as host bits.

But the subnet mask given is: 255.255.255.240 which is nothing but /28. That means, 24 network bits, 4 subnet bits and 4 host bits.

The number of IP addresses (Num of hosts) per subnet is: 4 host bits so = 16 IP addresses per subnet.

The number of subnets with the same mask: 4 subnet bits

So,  = 16 subnets
