The Sumatra-Andaman earthquake of December 26, 2004 with an undersea epicenter off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, as reported in [1][2]. It triggered a series of devastating tsunamis that spread throughout the Indian Ocean killing approximately 230,000 people, including more than 168,000 in Indonesia and over 30,000 in Sri Lanka [2].
