Various companies (like Uber, Careem, etc) have been offering services that include peer-to-peer
ridesharing, ride service hailing and food delivery in the big cities of Pakistan. Every vehicle has
unique ID, they claim security of passengers and things to be delivered. Almost everything in the
structure of these vehicle networks are same as computer networks.
Assuming both networks, discuss the following using your own concepts.

b)Compare these vehicular networks with computer network on the basis of (i) data packets, ii) headers, iii) addressing, iv) routing, v) switching, vi) congestion control, vii) delays, and viii) packet loss. How the statistical multiplexing on the vehicular network could be used to fill un-booked free seats or missing rides by users. Write 2-3 lines for each comparison.

subject :- Networking

Answer #1

(i) datapacket is anologous to passengers in the taxi(or the items in which the riding vehicle is carrying)

(II) Headers: Information related to the travelling of passengers and taxi. For example, starting point, ending point, total distance to be travelled, number of passengers etc.

(III) addressing: In computer networks, addressing is actually related to IP addressing. Here the ridetaxi number is unique, and we can take anologous to IP address.

(Iv) routing: Routing is actually nothing but it is the selection of path in which the packet have to be transmitted. In this example it can be taken as the road path from starting station to destination. For example, there may be several paths to go from Place A to Place B, selecting the appropriate the path is coming in routing.

(v) switching: In this anology, we can replace the switch with a toll or a traffic signal. If everything related to the vehicle and passengers are correct toll will be open and forwarded them to their destination path.

(vi) congestion control: Here it may be considered as a traffic jam.If traffic is there,it will affect the reaching time.

(vii) Delay: several delays like propagation delay, queing delay, transmission delay etc may occur in computer networks. Here it can be taken as, the time taken by the taxi to reach at the destination place.Similarly queing delay is analogous to time taken in the traffic signals, tolls etc in between the travel.

(viii) Packet loss: In computer networks, a packet loss occurs if there is any errors in data transmission. In this example,we can take it as some problems with the vehicle,or the road is blocked etc.

Statistical multiplexing is actually implies an on demand service rather than preallocated scheme. It is actually a communication sharing mechanism.

Here also if there are any un booked seats free, and in the way someone is asking for a lift and ready to pay the charge, the unbooked seats can be provided to him/her. Similarly if missing rides comes, if any others are there who are not booked prior but need an emergency service, can use the taxi.
