There are 2 approaches of DW : Inmon's and Kimball's

In Inmon's DW approach, everything is stored in 3NF while in Kimball's DW approach, everything is stored in dimensional form means star schema.

Inmon believes that 3NF is right way to store data until it presented to user and has advantages of easy maintainance of data consistency.
