Why can clock speeds be higher on a serial bus than a parallel bus

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer)

The clock speeds are higher on the serial bus than that of the parallel bus when considering the same signal frequency. One might not be able to enhance the signal frequency for the parallel transmission without any limit as with regards to the design all the signals from that of the transmitter would need to arrive at the receiver at that of the same time.

A 32-bit parallel bus clocked at a frequency of 300 MHz is to be replaced with a USB-like bus consisting of just a single serial channel. (a) What is the peak throughput of the parallel bus, in Mbytes per second? Note: 1 Mbyte/second = 8 x 10^6 bits/second, 1 MHz = 10^6 Hz (b) If we were to replace this parallel bus with a serial bus with only a single data channel, what is the minimum frequency for clocking the...

consider that you need to set up a serial network, which will have one Master and four Slaves. Either SPI or I2C can be used. Every second, data has to be distributed, such that one byte is sent to Slave 1, four to Slave 2, three to Slave 3, and four to Slave 4. If the complete data transfer must take not more than 200 us, estimate the minimum clock frequency which is allowable for SPI and I2C. Assume there...

Collusion can earn higher prices and higher profits under the Bertrand model, but why is this an unlikely outcome in practice? A. Firms prefer to remain independent of other firms so that their pricing plans can be more flexible over time. B. The collusive firms have an incentive to gain market share at the expense of the other firms by cutting prices. C. The federal antitrust authorities have an easier time catching firms that collude on price rather than quantity....
