in Unix/Linus, What is the difference between man and whatis commands?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

"man" command basically gives us the user manual of the particular command that we could run on the terminal , basically it gives us complete detailed view of the command. It is the interface to see the reference manuals.

"whatis" command basically gives us a one line manual page description , in Linus/unix every manual page will have some description so "whatis" command searches for the description and displays the manual page description of the specified command.
